WJIB exists only with the support and generous donations of you and our community of listeners. This is how WJIB can remain commercial-free.

We run no advertising and have no other source of income. Shortfalls are supplemented by John Garabedian, who receives no salary. This continues the tradition started by founder Bob Bittner over 30 years ago to give music lovers a special place to enjoy continuous music without commercial interruption so they can recall wonderful memories.

It is your support keeping WJIB commercial-free.

Donations of any size are appreciated (if your finances are tight we understand). The AM 720 and FM 101.3 signal improvements and the addition of online streaming have added substantial increased expenses. We are optimistic that eventually our greatly increased coverage will greatly increase audience and they’ll be almost as generous as our long-time WJIB listeners. This year at the suggestion of a few listeners we are offering “donate monthly” feature.  It’s amazing what as little as $10 a month will do. Just click “donate” and pay with a credit card.

This year to encourage more and larger donations, we are offering free gifts!

For the first 350 contributions of $50-$100 you’ll receive our colorful new WJIB mousepad!  For a contribution of $101 or more you’ll receive a personally autographed copy of John Garabedian’s memoir, “The Harmony of Parts,” a three pound, 400-page hardcover spanning his long broadcasting career and the parallel history of Boston radio since the early 1950s. It’s loaded with 200 photos from John’s private collection of many of the biggest stars in music, from Dionne Warwick, Liza Minnelli, Cher, Bee Gees, Elton John, Lionel Richie, Donna Summer, and Tiny Tim to Steven Tyler, Billy Joel, Hulk Hogan and even modern superstars Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga.

HOW OUR ANNUAL FUNDRAISING WORKS:

  1. Every summer, WJIB asks listeners to donate the amount of their choice to the station by check, and now via VISA/Mastercard. When the year’s goal is reached, ALL fund-raising announcements cease for the remainder of the year.
  2. Because WJIB is virtually a one-man station, annual expenses are minimal, compared to any other station. Contributions go exclusively to the expenses of operating the station, without frivolous spending.
  3. We ask listeners send in as much as what they feel the music on the station is worth to the. However WJIB also feels that it’s important to NOT send in an amount more than what a listener would miss, regarding his/her personal finances.
  4. For this the listener gets to proudly listen as a contributor for the remainder of the year. The “free” streaming on the WJIB phone app, Alexa, and at this website have added over $75,000 to our annual expenses due to added digital royalties payable to the artists. If you listen online we would ask you to consider throwing in a little extra to cover the cost of this convenience. It is hugely expensive, which is why founder Bob Bittner never offered it.
  5. The second major new expense is the 20x power increase and change from AM 740 to AM 720.  This has massively increased our signal coverage both day and night thanks to a six-figure investment in new equipment (completely paid for with funds from John Garabedian). Our monthly tower site lease and electricity bill increased expenses by over $100,000 annually. The benefit is that now WJIB reaches a much larger audience and clears up reception for long-time listeners beyond in areas with a weak signal.

Contribute today what you feel WJIB brings you all year so we can continue commercial-free.

Thank you.
